Ideas For Homemade Father’s Day Cards

Monday, June 5th, 2017

handmade idea fathers day cardStore-bought Father’s Day cards always seem to look the same: golf clubs, fishing rods, and tools. But your dad is special, and on Father’s Day he deserves a handmade Father’s Day card that really captures your special bond.

Maybe you have a favorite board game you like to play together, or you enjoy the same sport (maybe that sport is golf!). Whatever it is, using these details to create a homemade Father’s Day card (or even Father’s Day cards for grandpa or uncle) will make a memorable gift. After all, handmade gifts always come straight from the heart, so why settle for anything less for your dad? Here are some card crafting tips and ideas for all ages:

Choose a unique Father’s Day card theme.

Think about what you really want to say, and how you want to make your dad (or grandpa, or uncle) feel. Maybe you want to remind him of your favorite day together when you were a kid, or express all the reasons he has helped you as you’ve grown. Some possible themes could be:

  • Happy fathers day superhero card theme ideaSkiing
  • Hiking
  • Watersports
  • Road trips
  • Movies
  • Books
  • Travel
  • Historic events
  • Your favorite place
  • Camping
  • Music and instruments
  • Superhero
  • Dad-to-be theme

The possibilities don’t stop there! Any theme that comes from your heart will speak volumes. Plus, choosing an original theme will make choosing colors, folds and embellishments much more focused.

Opt for a unique fold.

While it’s easy to fold a piece of construction paper in half and call it a card, there are so many unique and interesting ways to set up your card. For example, you can cut it in the shape of something relevant to your relationship, like a football, a video game console, or something from his favorite movie.

Get To Decorating Your Homemade Father’s Day Card!

This is the best part, so get out your crafting supplies: tissue paper, craft paper, ribbon, embellishments, glitter … whatever you think will make your Father’s Day card one-of-a-kind!

Tip: We suggest adding interactive elements to your card.

  • Make a pocket for a gift card.
  • Add extra pages for a longer message.
  • Create a pop-up scene that matches your theme, like splashing water and a boat, or a skier jumping toward him when he opens it! You will just need a little more time and construction paper for this idea.

Don’t Forget The Final Touches!

Write a poem, draw a picture, and add a gift card or candy. A little something extra always makes a card feel that much more thoughtful.

Tips For Helping Young Kids Make A Father’s Day Card:

  • If you’re helping a child create a card, ask them what they love about their dad to get an idea established.
  • Cut the shape of the card out for them. If they are old enough to use scissors, trace the shape so they can use it as a guide.
  • Help them choose the right adhesives (tape, liquid glue, or glue stick).

Now your card is ready to sign!

gift wrapping paper galore at Paper Plus

Ribbons and tissue and toppers, oh my! It’s the time of year when we are inundated with questions on gift wrapping so we thought we’d put together an anyone-can-do-it guide for wrapping your holiday gifts. Come on in and we’ll help you pick out the perfect paper, gift bags, stickers, bows and cards– everything you need to ensure your gifts stand out!

All the gift wrapping supplies you'll needGather wrapping materials

All you need are scissors, tape, wrapping paper, a bow or some kind of festive frill and, of course, the present. If your gift isn’t already in a box, we have gift boxes of every size and shape to choose from. Choosing a box with flat surfaces will make wrapping it neatly much easier.
Pro Tip: Use scissors that have only been used to cut paper, if you can. Sharp blades = clean-cut lines and better looking presents.

Measure out how much paper to cut

Put your present on the wrapping paper at an angle, instead of even with the edge. You want enough paper so that it extends comfortably past each corner when you lay the gift on it diagonally. Arranging the box diagonally saves paper and looks neater too, because the folds aren’t on the edges.

Fold the wrapping paper on each side of the present

Fold the bottom part up and fold and tuck in one side. Then fold the side up and over and secure it with a piece of tape. Make sure to pull it snug before taping, to keep it looking neat.

Stand the box up and repeat folding to the other side

Tuck in the other corner and fold the paper to cover the top of the present. Again, you’ll want to pull the paper tight so it’s snug around the gift. Then flip it over to the other side.

Pinch and fold up the remaining two sides

Tuck in the remaining corners and fold the side then the top part. Just tuck in the corner of the top flap and secure it with another piece of tape.

Here comes the fun part! Candy canes, bits of greenery, stickers, cards and hand-written notes all serve in bringing your presents to life. We have patterned ribbons, colorful bows and plenty of accessories to add the perfect amount personality to your gift.

Why Everyone Should Be Celebrating Mardi Gras in 2016

Friday, January 29th, 2016

Colorful Mardi Gras beadsFirst, a little word-history lesson: Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday and refers to the tradition of eating richer foods before the ritual fasting of Lent, which begins the next day, a.k.a. Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is also called Shrove Tuesday, from the English word shrive, which means ‘to confess’ — referring to the penitence given before the start of Lent. This year, Mardi Gras is Tuesday, February 9th.
